Chang Khim: Karpal lacks political wisdom

DAP central executive committee member Teng Chang Khim has criticised Karpal Singh over his remarks about the jurisdiction of the Perak Sultan, saying the party chief lacks political wisdom in handling the issue especially in the wake of the political tsunami.

He says would-be BN defectors' support for his alliance is growing

In recent days, Umno officials have privately said that as many as 17 BN Members of Parliament, mainly from the East Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, could defect to the opposition as early as tomorrow.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 — He is not in Parliament yet and is still putting finishing touches on a coherent Opposition in Malaysia but Time magazine have picked Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as one of the 100 most influential people in the world for 2008.

Chow lashed out at reporters

(The Sun) - Penang Local Government, Traffic Management and Environment Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow today lashed out at reporters for not supporting the state government's decision to appoint seven municipal councillors from non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

"In the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) we appointed four representatives from NGOs, short of one and you (reporters) are pushing this issue so much," told reporters when questioned on the issue after the swearing-in of 24 MPPP municipal councillors.

Anwar claims his alliance set to take over govt

KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 — De facto opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim looked every inch the prime minister-in-waiting when he calmly announced that his Pakatan Rakyat has the numbers and is ready to form the federal government.

"Now I am saying for the first time that we are ready," Anwar told reporters after a 10,000-strong rally in the historic Sultan Sulaiman Club in central Kuala Lumpur celebrating his formal return to politics. He was barred from active politics until midnight April 14 after a corruption conviction in 1999.

Since 1993 when he won the Umno deputy presidency, veteran opposition leader and former nemesis-turned-ally Lim Kit Siang had tagged Anwar as a prime-minister-in-waiting – a tag he now assumes proudly as burly guards escorted him through the club after they led a convoy of big bikes to deliver him to the club premises in Kampung Baru.
